Process and chemical plants have assets in hazardous or hard-to-access areas, where physically attaching a sensor is impractical, costly, or simply unsafe. VibraVizja® measures from a safe distance, with no zone entry and no contact with the machine.

Many assets in process industries operate under conditions that, by definition, hinder conventional diagnostics: explosion-hazard zones, high temperatures, corrosive substances, limited physical access. As a result, these machines often get diagnosed less often than they should — not because they matter less, but because reaching them is harder.

Common Diagnostic Barriers in Process Plants

ATEX Zone Constraints

Measuring in classified explosion-hazard zones typically requires permits, entry procedures, and intrinsically safe equipment — barriers that delay or entirely rule out routine point measurements.

Extreme Environmental Conditions

High temperature, chemically aggressive vapours, or thermal insulation make it hard to install contact sensors without risking equipment damage or breaching the installation's integrity.

Limited Physical Access

Assets located high up, in confined spaces, or behind process barriers may require scaffolding, a process shutdown, or additional permits just to physically reach the measurement point.

Infrequent Inspection Cycles

When every measurement requires significant logistical preparation, these assets tend to get checked less often than more accessible machines — raising the risk of a developing fault going undetected.

Why Contact Measurement Is Often Impractical

Mounting an accelerometer in an ATEX zone or on a hot process surface isn't a matter of convenience — it's a real safety and logistics constraint. As a result, these assets often fall outside the routine vibration monitoring programme, even though their failure can be among the most costly in the entire plant.

Does a non-contact measurement remove the risk of a corrosive process atmosphere?

Yes, in the sense that the camera has no physical contact with the process medium or with a surface exposed to corrosive substances — it measures from a safe distance. That removes the need for chemically-resistant sensor housings or periodically replacing equipment damaged by the environment.

Do you need special equipment to measure on hot process surfaces?

No. Because the camera never touches the surface being measured, high installation temperature isn't a constraint on the measurement itself — unlike a contact sensor, which would need to be rated for elevated temperature or actively cooled.

Does the measurement remove the need for confined-space entry?

Only when the point of interest is visible from outside the confined space. If the only available vantage point is inside it — deep in a vessel or duct, for example — standard confined-space entry procedures and permits still apply.

What frequency range does the measurement cover on typical process pumps and compressors?

The Standard Kit's 90 FPS camera covers vibration up to 30 Hz — enough for most rotating equipment running at typical industrial speeds. For assets running at higher rotational speeds, specialist kits with cameras up to 1500 FPS are available, covering up to 500 Hz.
