Beyond the Graph: VibraVizja®
for Commissioning & SAT

The moment of truth in any industrial project is not the design review or the factory test. It is commissioning. This is when months of engineering meet the physics of the real world. Here is why vibration amplification is transforming how Site Acceptance Tests are conducted, documented, and disputed.

For decades, the industry has relied on vibration sensors and spectrum analysers to prove a machine is fit for service. A spectrum is the right instrument for identifying fault frequencies and trending machine condition over time. What it cannot do is show you where on the structure that energy lives, or what is physically moving. During commissioning, that spatial blindspot has real consequences: machines that pass their vibration specification at the bearing housings while their surroundings vibrate, their baseplates flex and their connected pipework accumulates fatigue loading.

By amplifying micro-movements that are invisible to the naked eye and rendering them as video, VibraVizja® turns the Site Acceptance Test from a technical dispute between specialists into a conversation in which every stakeholder in the room can see the evidence directly.

The Visual Acceptance Report: Ending the Contractor-Client Dispute

In traditional commissioning, disputes arise when a machine passes its vibration specification at the bearing measurement points whilst the surrounding mezzanine is perceptibly shaking or a pipe flange is under visible stress. Without any view of how the full installation behaves under load, these become latent defects: problems the asset owner inherits the moment the contractor leaves site.

By amplifying the motion of the entire installation simultaneously (machine, baseplate, structure, pipework, supports), VibraVizja® removes the spatial blindspot that has historically been the source of most commissioning disputes.

'A machine can meet every vibration specification at its bearing housings and still fail within six months. VibraVizja® shows you why, before the contractor leaves site.'

1. Identifying Built-in Failures Before Sign-off

Soft foot, pipe strain and structural resonance are the three most common causes of premature failure in newly commissioned assets, and none of them is reliably detected by point-sensor measurements alone. If a baseplate is breathing under dynamic torque, the amplified video shows it. If a support frame is amplifying rather than attenuating the machine's excitation, that too is visible, before the final SAT sign-off.

Structural Resonance Analysis — Industrial Engine Support Structure

A structural vibration assessment of an engine support frame revealed resonance conditions with disproportionate amplification at specific locations — exactly the built-in failure the commissioning phase should catch before handover.

2. The Zero-Baseline Video

One of the most undervalued deliverables in any commissioning programme is a reliable baseline. The Zero-Baseline Video is a permanent visual record of how every component of the installation moved when it was new and operating within specification. During a root cause analysis, the maintenance team can compare current footage directly against the commissioning video and see, without interpretation, what has shifted, loosened or degraded.

3. Spectral Correlation

VibraVizja® does not replace frequency-domain analysis; it anchors it in physical reality. When a spectrum shows a prominent peak at 50 Hz and a stakeholder asks what that means for the integrity of the installation, a frequency filter applied to the amplified video shows the discharge pipe oscillating in phase with that frequency. The question 'what is that peak doing to the machine?' is answered by pointing at the screen.

Strategic Use Cases for Reliability-Focused Commissioning

Structural Resonance Mapping

The interaction between a machine and its supporting structure is the greatest unknown in the transition from CAD to reality. VibraVizja® visualises the full operational deflection shape of the entire system under running load, revealing mode shapes and resonance amplification zones that determine exactly where stiffening is needed before handover.

Soft Foot & Foundation Integrity

Laser alignment confirms static geometric accuracy. It says nothing about how a foundation behaves under dynamic torque. VibraVizja® amplifies the interface between machine feet, shim packs and concrete, making microscopic lifting or poor grout bonding visible as obvious "breathing" motion.

Piping Strain & Phase Relationships

By scanning suction and discharge lines simultaneously, VibraVizja® identifies phase relationships between the machine and its connected pipework. Out-of-phase motion between a pump casing and a connected pipe run is high-stress piping strain: a flange crack waiting to happen.

Transient Events: Start-up & Coast-down

The highest-risk moment for a new asset is its first run-up to operating speed. VibraVizja® captures the physical deformation during the frequency sweep, identifying the exact speed ranges to program as VFD skip frequencies.

Anti-Vibration Mount Verification

A single VibraVizja® frame simultaneously captures the machine side and the foundation side of every isolator in view, revealing bypassed mounts that short-circuit vibration isolation in seconds.

Whole-Asset Installation Quality

A single VibraVizja® scan captures every bolt and bracket in the frame, providing a comprehensive installation quality record that is part of the handover documentation.

VibraVizja® Is Not a Replacement. It Is the Missing Layer.

VibraVizja® does not replace accelerometer-based vibration analysis, laser alignment, oil analysis or thermography. What VibraVizja® contributes is the spatial, visual layer that has always been absent from the commissioning toolkit: the layer that makes the physics legible to every person in the room, not solely the vibration analyst.

In practice, this means fewer disputes at handover, a stronger documentary record of the installation's condition at acceptance, and a baseline that can serve its purpose when a root cause analysis is needed three or five years later.
